The Local Government Personnel Association of Virginia, Maryland and Washington D.C. area was founded  more than fifty years ago by the Personnel Directors of five government jurisdictions and has now grown to include the personnel directors and staff of over forty member organizations. Members regularly attend LGPA sponsored functions and meetings to discuss evolving concepts and activities of public personnel administrations and to maintain professional and social contact with their peers.

PRIMARY OBJECTIVES:

One of the primary objectives of the LGPA is the annual publication of a survey of salaries for the most common job classifications and major benefit programs used by most local area jurisdictions. The most recent Local Government Personnel Association (LGPA) Benchmark Salary and comprehensive Benefits Survey was a compilation of salary and benefit data from nearly 30 government organizations in the Baltimore-Washington region.

Survey participants include the State of Maryland and most other County Governments, municipalities, school systems, and Commissions in the broad region. These governments employ close to two hundred thousand people in the survey area. In the salary portion of the survey, participants are identified as either a large organization (over 650 FTE employees) or a small organization (employing up to 650 employees). Final tallies of salary data are provided for large jurisdictions, small jurisdictions, as well as a combined tally. The survey is available in the Fall.
